Field hockey falls in defensive battle to Wilson 1-0

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College field hockey team fell to Wilson College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) defensive struggle, 1-0, Tuesday afternoon on the Wilson College Field Hockey Field.

Neither team was able to generate many scoring opportunities. The Phoenix finished the match with seven shot attempts and seven penalty corners, while the Lions had three shots and two corners.

Wilson's Miranda Long broke the scoreless deadlock at the 46:44 mark with her ninth goal of 2017. Kailey Mixell played a cross from right to left along the crease. The ball made its way over to Long who deposited the ball into the net.

Bryn Athyn had a chance to get the equalizer in the final 10 minutes as Wilson picked up two yellow cards almost four minutes apart. However, the Lions were unable to generate a shot at the Phoenix net.

Macey Mitchell recorded four saves in a losing effort for Bryn Athyn. Kayla Butts earned the shutout with a three-save performance.

Bryn Athyn (2-10, 0-3 NEAC) closes out NEAC play with its final home match of the season on Friday, Oct. 20 against Morrisville State at 7 p.m.
