Lions defeated bu Cairn in high-scoring CSAC affair

LANGHORNE, Pa. – Larry Stevenson III scored a career-high 35 points for the Bryn Athyn College men's basketball team in a 103-91 loss to Cairn University in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) contest Saturday afternoon.

Stevenson III—who posted his second 30+-point performance in the last five games—shot 13-of-21 from the field, including 6-of-11 from 3-point range, in 29 minutes of action. The 13 made baskets and six made 3-pointers are both career highs.

Rahim Washington also had a strong afternoon for the Lions (4-12, 2-2 CSAC) as he poured in a season-best 23 points on 7-of-16 shooting, grabbed a team-high nine rebounds, and dished out five assists.

The two teams traded the lead three times in the opening 1:44 of the contest, swapping baskets on four straight possession. On the final basket of the sequence, Justin Dean made a layup—part of a 17-point afternoon—to spark a 22-8 run that gave the Highlanders (10-6, 5-0 CSAC) a 26-11 advantage at the 12:27 mark of the half.

After Cairn pushed the gap to a half-high 28 points (58-30), Bryn Athyn would end the half with a 10-3 surge in the final 2:50 to close within 61-40. Tariq Moore scored seven of his game tot10 points in the run, including a 3-pointer as the half expired.

The Highlanders got off to a fast start in the second half with nine straight points to take a game-high 30-point lead (70-40) with 17:36 left.

Bryn Athyn fought back over the next six minutes, scoring 21 of the next 27 points to cut the Cairn lead in half (76-61). Five different Lions contributed to the run, led by Stevenson's 11 points. The Bryn Athyn defense forced Cairn into 2-for-11 shooting and four turnovers during the rally.

After Cairn reestablished a 17-point lead, Bryn Athyn rattled off eight consecutive points to pull within single digits (88-79) on a Stevenson layup with 5:10 left in the contest

The Highlanders managed to go back up by 14 points (100-86) with 51 seconds remaining and were able to keep the Lions at bay.

Malachi Hall led by Cairn players in double figures with 20 points, while Jeremiah Harris added 19 points. Julian Collazo had a triple-double consisting of 13 points, 13 assists, and 10 rebounds. Jordan Koczman (16 points, 10 rebounds) posted a double-double.

Bryn Athyn returns to Asplundh Field House to take on Centenary (N.J.) in a CSAC battle on Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 8 p.m.
