Men's tennis begins 2018 with 6-3 win over Rosemont
BRYN ATHYN, Pa. -- The Dave Sheaffer era is off to a strong start as his Bryn Athyn College men's tennis team defeated visiting Rosemont College, 6-3, to kick-off the 2018 season Saturday afternoon on the Gladish Courts.
Bryn Athyn (1-0) showed up for the match with five players, forcing the Lions to forfeit points at number six singles and number three doubles. 
The Lions' solid doubles play erased the deficit and leveled the match at two with comfortable victories. 
The No. 2 tandem of Vojtech Luza and Nikita Smirnov put the Lions on the board with an 8-2 win over Nick Tortorella and Jack Crozier. Bryn Athyn's top team of Aamit Padmanabhan and Drew Heller cruised to an 8-2 victory over David Kleiner and Nathan Navarro to even the overall match score.
Camden Cacolice opened singles play off with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph against Jacob Klump at No. 5. Smirnov's 6-3, 6-1 victory over Crozier in the No. 4 flight allowed the Lions to move within one point of the win. Heller would secure the victory minutes later as he knocked off Navarro in a battle of No. 2s, 6-0, 6-2.
Bryn Athyn's sixth point came from Padmanabhan defeated Kleiner, Rosemont's, number 1, 6-1, 6-4.
Bryn Athyn has a week off before hosting Delaware Valley University in a non-conference match on Saturday, March 24 at 10 a.m.
