LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College men's cross country team kicked off its 2018 campaign with a third-place finish in the season-opening 2018 Highlander Invitational, hosted by Cairn University, on Friday afternoon.
Bryn Athyn tallied 70 points in its first race of the season. Host Cairn won the event with 20 points, while Penn State Abington came in second with a score of 43.
In his first cross country race, Trevor Kleckner was Bryn Athyn's fastest runner as he completed the soggy 4-kilometer course in a time of 15 minutes, 38.6 seconds to claim 10th in the 29-runner field.
Shane McCurdy needed 16:07.3 to finish the race in 13th place overall. Tanner Congdon beat out teammate and cross-country debutant Isaac Syre for 18th place. Congdon posted a time of 16:47.4 to claim 18th, while Syre settled for 19th with a time of 16:57.2
Tyree Sewell claimed Bryn Athyn's final scoring position after crossing the finish line with the 21st-place time of 17:25.4, edging past fellow Lion Malik Jenkins who had the 22nd-place time of 17:27.8.
Penn State Abington's Benjamin Hoyer won the race with a time of 13:16.9.
The Lions will take on Penn State Abington in a dual race on Tuesday, Sept. 5 on the Bryn Athyn campus.
