MEDIA, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College women's basketball team opened the 2019 portion of its schedule with a 73-32 loss to Penn State Brandywine in the Lions' final non-conference game of the season Wednesday night in the Brandywine Commons.
Clayshonia Cogmon was Bryn Athyn's top scorer with 12 points on 5-of-11 shooting in 37 minutes of work. Cogmon also pulled down eight rebounds, five on the offensive end of the floor.
The Lions (0-11) battled early in the contest, staying within 4-2 on a Cogmon layup with 6:31 left in the opening quarter. Then, Penn State Brandywine (8-4) nine straight points in a four-minute span to extend its lead to 13-2.
A Beck jumper with 2:10 remaining in the quarter closed the gap to single digits once again (13-4). The Nittany Lions ended the opening 10 minutes with four of the last six points to own a 17-6 advantage.
Bryn Athyn would struggle to find its shot over the next two quarters to trail 60-19 after three quarters. In the final quarter, the Lions shot 4-of-13 from the field and held the Nittany Lions to 4-of-18 shooting to play an even 10 minutes with both teams scoring 13 points. Warren led Bryn Athyn in the fourth with five points.
Brandi James recorded 14 points and 12 rebounds, both game highs, for Penn State Brandywine. Nikki Velez posted 12 points.
Bryn Athyn resumes to Colonial States Athletic Conference play on Saturday, Jan. 5 against visiting Clarks Summit University at 1 p.m. in Asplundh Field House.
