Women's lacrosse recognized by IWLCA for academic success

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College women's lacrosse program was recognized for its success in the classroom by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) as it tabbed a 2017 IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad on Wednesday. In addition to the team accolade, a program-record seven Lions earned IWLCA Zag Sports Division III Academic Honor Roll laurels.

As a team, the Lions are being honored as an Academic Honor Squad for the third straight year. Bryn Athyn is one of 310 schools across Divisions I, II, III and the NAIA to earn the distinction. In Division III, 145 schools were recognized. In order to be an IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad, a team must have posted a 3.0 or higher team GPA for the academic year.

Bryn Athyn led the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) with its seven players on the Academic Honor Roll. The Lions are one of 11 Division III teams to feature at least seven Academic Honor Roll awardees.

Recent Bryn Athyn graduate Michelle Bedford is on the Academic Honor Roll for the second straight year, making her the first Lion to earn the honor twice. Sabrina Colbridge, Laura Clymer, Miranda Hyatt, Katherine Morrill, Marin Roth, and Brenna Sweeney are all first-time honorees. To be eligible for the Academic Honor Roll, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and have earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater.

Bedford, Colbridge, Hyatt, Morrill, Roth, and Sweeney were named NEAC Scholar-Athletes earlier this month.
