Volleyball Season Preview
Bryn Athyn, Pa. - Having a strong returning core and a talented group of newcomers are the primary reasons the Lions volleyball team is extremely optimistic going into the new season.
A young Bryn Athyn College squad kicks off the 2011 campaign September 6th against PSU-Brandywine. With a large incoming class and no seniors. Members of the team who are back this year saw considerable time on the floor last season and bring valuable experience to the mix.
The key returners are sophomores Cree Gurney and Holly Adams. Gurney, who played outside hitter, burst onto the scene last season after dominating the competition. Defensive specialist, Adams will continue to bring backbone to the defense.
Adina Petersmeyer, who begins her second year as head volleyball coach at Bryn Athyn, says Gurney is a force because she's a dedicated student-athlete. "She has a great attitude, is a great teammate, she works hard, she's passionate and demonstrative."
Team depth and athleticism are strengths for the Lions and Petersmeyer is confident last season's first-year players are ready to take on bigger roles this year.
The team will be tested right away; the Lions play its home opener, against PSU-Brandywine on Tuesday September 6th at 7:00 pm.
