Lions fall in three sets to visiting Wesley

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – Hannah Dewees recorded a match-high 11 kills for the Bryn Athyn College women's volleyball team in a 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-23) non-conference loss to visiting Wesley College Tuesday night in Asplundh Field House.

In addition to Dewees' strong performance, the Lions (4-7) got eight kills and six digs from Lex Juritsch and six kills from Briana Cliney. Jenessa Lombardi racked up 27 assists, nine digs, and three aces. Chloe Levan added a team-high 11 digs.

The Lions and Wolverines (6-10) battled back and forth during the early stages of the first set. With Wesley leading 11-9, the visitors caught fire and ended up going on a 14-4 run to close out the first set. Regan Healey had three of her team-high 10 kills during the surge.

An Allaina Brock kill in set two started a 4-1 Bryn Athyn run that pulled the Lions within 8-6. Wesley answered right back with five consecutive points to extend its advantage to seven (13-6). Juritsch closed the gap to four (13-9) with a kill to cap a brief run of three straight Bryn Athyn points. The Wolverines would put the set out of reach a bit later in the set as a 7-3 spurt gave Welsey a 21-13 lead.

Welsey looked to have the final set under control as the Wolverines opened up a 17-12 advantage. However, a timeout called by Lion head coach Dennis Hibbs got Bryn Athyn back on track because after the break the Lions ran off five straight points, three on Juritsch kills, to level the set at 17. After Wesley went back up four (21-17), Bryn Athyn fought back once again to draw level at 23. Wesley won the final two points to claim the match.

Mary Getty had eight kills for Wesley, while Lindsey Burg added 24 assists.

Bryn Athyn will make its Colonial States Athletic Conference debut on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at Clarks Summit at 7 p.m.
