BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College field hockey team suffered an 8-1 non-conference loss to Moravian College in the fourth game of its five-game homestand Saturday afternoon on General Ronald K. Nelson Field.
Eve Miller scored her second goal for the season in the setback for Bryn Athyn (1-4) with 29:59 left in the contest. Miller found the back of the net from the left post as she redirected a Chantal Farmer pass into the goal to cut the Moravian (3-3) lead to 4-1.
The Greyhounds had three different players score in the opening 35 minutes to take a 4-0 lead at the break. Talea Gordon opened the scoring with a shot from the right wing of the arc through traffic on a penalty corner at 5:52. Just under 10 minutes later, Olivia Schlofer doubled the gap with a tap-in at the left post after getting a pass from Olivia Emrick. Sara Cruz made it 4-0 at the 30:40 mark with two goals scored 37 seconds apart.
Ashley Magee allowed Moravian to regain its four-goal lead at 51:09, slamming in a cross-arc pass from Ava Edwards. After Kendal Wilkes scored the Greyhounds sixth goal, Cruz completed her hat-trick at 61:38. Elizabeth Hrehovick closed out the scoring with 2:02 left in the contest.
Kailey Brower made a career-high 16 saves for Bryn Athyn in the loss. The 16 saves are the most by a Lion goalie this season. For Moravian, Sabrina Masone stopped one shot in the second half, while starter Ashley Kunsman didn't make any saves in the first 45 minutes.
Bryn Athyn closes out its season-long five-game homestand on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. when the Lions make their Colonial States Athletic Conference debut against Cedar Crest.
