ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Bryn Athyn College men's ice hockey team jumped out to a 3-0 lead in Saturday's game at Nazareth and then held on for a 3-3 tie with the Golden Flyers in Bill Gray's IcePlex.
The Lions (2-1-1) led 2-0 after the first period on a pair of goals scored in the opening 4:07 of the game. Cameron Shorrock put Bryn Athyn on the board at the 3:11 mark with his second college of the season. Brett Dillon doubled the Lion lead 56 seconds later when he scored his first collegiate goal, assisted by Dakota Ulmer.
McKenzie Chalmers was stellar in the Bryn Athyn goal as he made 18 first period saves to keep Nazareth (2-2-1) off the board.
Tanner Congdon his first goal of the 2019-20 season just past the midway of the second period to increase the Lion lead to three.
Then, Nazareth's Cole Moore turn the momentum of the game toward the host Golden Flyers with the team's first goal coming with 30 second left in the second.
James McDonald scored the power play at 8:17 of the third period, with an assist from Brian Miller, to cut the Bryn Athyn lead to 3-2. Justin Miller's unassisted goal with 2:03 left in regulation sent the game to overtime.
In the extra five minutes, Chalmers recorded a pair of saves and Nazareth's Michael Tilford stopped three shots to keep the game tied.
Chalmers finished the game stopped 27 of the 30 shots he faced, while Tilford had 23 saves, 11 in the third period.
Nazareth was 1-for-4 on the power play and Bryn Athyn did not score on its only man advantage.
Bryn Athyn heads to Clinton, N.Y. to face Hamilton on Sunday, Nov. 17 at 5:30 p.m.
