BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College men's soccer team dropped a wild 4-2 Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) contest to visiting Rosemont Saturday afternoon on General Ronald K. Nelson Field.
Before kickoff, head coach Bill O'Neill and the men's soccer team honored seniors Pete Comas, Chris Mitchell, and Zachary Brock, who played their final game on General Nelson field, in a pre-game ceremony.
Trailing 2-0 after a John Mason goal just 1:23 into the second half, Bryn Athyn answered back with a pair of goals in a 4:48 span to level the match at two.
Matheus Chaves continued his hot play of late when he tracked down a long pass over the top of the Rosemont defense and blasted a shot by a charging Grant Gonzalez at the 50:12 mark. He now has a team-high four goals.
Joey Nugent's second goal of 2019 evened the score at two with 35 minutes left to play. Brock headed a free kick to the left post when Nugent one-timed his shot from eight yards out into the net for the equalizer.
The match remained 2-2 until 87:51 when Alex Arriola took advantage of a scramble in front of the Bryn Athyn net to put Rosemont in front. The Ravens attempted four shots at goal during the sequence. Keeper Michael Haas stopped the first shot and the next two were blocked by Bryn Athyn defenders. The ricochet of the third shot fell to Arriola who put the ball across goal inside the left post.
Arriola added an insurance goal for Rosemont with 27 seconds left.
Rosemont (7-7-1, 3-1-0 CSAC) took a 1-0 lead on a first-half penalty kick by Josh Dawicki at 22:48.
Haas finished the game with 12 saves, while Gonzalez had four stopped.
Bryn Athyn (1-14-0, 1-5-0 CSAC) concludes the season with a road contest at Wilson on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 3:30 p.m.
