BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College women's volleyball team locked up the number four seed for the Colonial States Athletic Conference Tournament with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-23) Senior Day victory over conference opponent Wilson College Saturday afternoon in Asplundh Field House. Prior to the beginning of the match, the Lions honored their one and only senior Amber Wood.
Bryn Athyn ends the regular season with an 8-12 overall record and a 4-4 conference mark. Wilson is now 7-12 overall, 4-4 in CSAC play. By virtue of Saturday's victory, Bryn Athyn won the head-to-head tiebreaker with Wilson that makes Bryn Athyn the number four seed and Wilson the number five seed.
The Lions and Phoenix will meet up again in the first round of the CSAC Tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. in Asplundh Field House.
Hannah Dewees had a match-high 11 kills for Bryn Athyn, while Wood contributed nine kills. Jenessa Lombardi recorded her fifth double-double of the year with 18 assists and 13 digs. Chloe Levan had a match-best 15 digs.
The Lions controlled the opening set thanks to a 15-8 advantage in kills. Dewees recorded six kills in the first, while Wood added four. A 9-3 run allowed the Lions to open up a 22-15 lead. Wilson closed the gap to two (22-20) with five straight points, but Dewees' final kill of the set settled the Lions down, allowing them to win the set.
After falling behind 4-0 during the early stages of set two, Bryn Athyn took advantage of seven Wilson errors to score 11 straight points to storm ahead 11-4. The Lions stretched the advantage out to nine (23-14) on a Dewees kill.
Bryn Athyn rallied to overcome an 18-14 advantage to steal the third set and win the match. Lombardi delivered three aces during a run of six consecutive Bryn Athyn points to give the Lions a 20-18 cushion. Wilson came back to level the set at 23 on a Bryn Athyn error. Dewees closed out the match by scoring the final two points with a kill and a match-ending ace.
Hanna Quarry had 11 kills to lead Wilson, while Tioleaoauli Posluiai recorded nine kills and 15 digs.
