BALTIMORE, Md. – The Bryn Athyn College women's volleyball season ended with 3-0 (25-20 25-14, 25-18) loss to Notre Dame (Md.) in the semifinal round of the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Tournament Thursday night in Alumnae Hall.
Bryn Athyn, who was the tournament's four seed, finishes the season at 9-14 and reached the tournament semifinal for the second straight season. Top-seeded Notre Dame improves to 24-3 after eliminating the Lions from the postseason for the second year in a row. The Gators will host second-seeded Cedar Crest in the CSAC Tournament final on Saturday, Nov. 9.
Lex Juritsch led Bryn Athyn with six kills and five digs, while Hannah Dewees and Clayshonia Cogmon both contributed four kills each. Jenessa Lombardi had 15 assists and eight digs. Chloe Levan recorded nine digs.
Bryn Athyn opened up a quick 5-2 lead to open the first set. Notre Dame answered back with four straight points to move ahead 6-5. With the set tied at seven, the Gators scored five of the next six points to open up a 12-8 advantage. Bryn Athyn closed to within one (14-13) on back-to-back Notre Dame attack errors, but the Gators reclaimed their four-point lead with a 3-0 run. The Lions got as close as two the rest of the way.
In set two, Bryn Athyn took a 4-3 lead on an attack error. The advantage was short-lived as Notre Dame rattled off four straight points to go in front 7-4. Bryn Athyn cut the gap to one multiple times, but Notre Dame, but the Gators would pull away by using a 13-2 outburst to take a set-high 12-point lead (23-11).
A Cliney kill midway through the third set gave Bryn Athyn a 12-9 advantage. The Gator response was a run of five straight points to take a 14-12 lead. Bryn Athyn pulled within 14-13 before Notre Dame won 9 of the next 10 points to widen its lead to 23-14.
Alyssa Kerns recorded a match-high 12 kills for the Gators, Michaila Sheedy had eight kills. Kayleigh Davis added seven kills and nine digs.
